Comparing Kitchen Remodel Quotes
Two real quotes, what each left out, and ten questions to ask.
Free, no obligation. One local fitter prices it, not five.
New kitchens
- Budget or flat-pack kitchen, fitted€4,500 to €10,000
- Mid-range fitted kitchen€9,000 to €20,000
- Typical family kitchen, made to measure, quartz worktop, fitted, VAT included€15,000 to €25,000
- High-specification or bespoke kitchen€13,500 to €35,000
How do I compare kitchen quotes?
Short answerLine by line: VAT, removal, plumbing, electrics, worktop, appliances and tiling. A cheaper total often leaves things out.
Two real quotes
A new kitchen in a Dublin semi came to about €12,100 with VAT, including taking out the old kitchen and making good. A 7.3 metre run with full-height units, lacquered doors and a quartz worktop came to about €15,900 with VAT, and that one left out the removal, the skip, electrics, plumbing, tiling and painting. The second looks dearer and does less. Compare what's in a quote, not just the total.
Ten questions to ask
- Is VAT included?
- Is taking out the old kitchen in it, and the skip?
- Who does the plumbing and electrics, and are they in the price?
- Is the worktop in it, and is it templated?
- Are the appliances in it, and which ones?
- Is tiling in it? Flooring?
- Who measures, and when is the price fixed?
- How much deposit, and when is the rest due?
- How long from order to fitting?
- What's the guarantee, in writing?

Questions we get asked
How many kitchen quotes should I get?
Enough to compare like with like. Two written quotes listing the same scope are more use than five totals.
Why are kitchen quotes so different?
They rarely cover the same job. One includes removal, plumbing and tiling; another leaves them out.
Who will ring me?
One kitchen fitter who covers your area. Your number isn't sent to a list. They ring you within one working day, ask about the kitchen and what's changing, and measure it before giving you a written price. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
